FRANCE , ITALY & TURKEY
Sailing Conditions We advise departing Marmaris because it is the easiest to reach by plane or boat from Greece. It also affords the opportunity of sailing to the best points to the north and south. The winds are strongly affected by local conditions, but a northwest wind prevails during the sailing season. The summer winds are the strongest in this region due to affects of the melthemi. |

Italy & Sardinia Character: Cruising from Sardinia starts in Palau along the northern Costa Esmeralda coastline. Small coves, jet set marinas, and food! food! food! are all part of the local atmosphere. Marinas are on the expensive side but you can duck into anchorages as well. A visit to the southwestern coast of Corsica presents an entirely different picture. Turquoise beaches nestled among crag cliffs invite you to stay the night. Towns with a delightful French character can be found giving you a different view of "France".

French & Italian Rivierra St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice and Monte Carlo are synonymous with glamour and enjoyment. Cruise the French and Italian Rivierra as well as the waters of Monaco. Start near Toulon and see the tree-covered islands of the Hyeres. Cruise on to St. Tropez with its earth tone buildings. Visit the castles of St. Raphael. Drop into Cannes' busy jet set waterfront. View the stunning architecture of Monte Carlo. Cruising sailors can find themselves nestled between mega-yachts or tucked away in a quiet bay. Many appetizing delicacies are to be had everywhere along the coast in beautiful restaurants right at the water's edge! |

Turkey Cruising this area is usually not done farther north than Kusadai, famed for the nearby site of Ephesus. Southward is the Mandalya Gulf with its numerous deserted bays, ancient sites, and occasional anchorages with villages. Bodrum, has modern facilities and a castle with an underwater museum. Passing the famous ancient site of Knidos, the beautiful Greek island of Simi and countless coves, bays, and inlets one comes to Marmaris, a great place to restock the boat. Farther south is Caunos, where ancient tombs can be seen by travelling upriver. Fethiye is nearby for provisioning and journeying along the wild southern coastline toward Kas and Antalya. Please note: It is also possible to begin a charter in Greece, cross over to the Turkish coast and then cross back into Greece to end the charter. (e.g. begin in Samos and end in Rhodes)

The People And The Food The Turks are outgoing, spirited and have a well know sense of hospitality througout the Aegean. While the villages do not offer abundant provisions, whatever you need can be found in the larger towns. English is not so readily spoken, but the eagerness of the people to communicate makes up for it. Food is excellent. A combination of Greek and middle eastern tastes combine to form a unique blend of specialties.
